ME, THE “OTHER” AND OUR HOUSE - Me, The “Other” is a documentary film that was shot on location in Washtenaw County in 2017. The film set out to find stories of students from three of the area colleges - University of Michigan, Washtenaw Community College, and Eastern Michigan University.

The filmmakers found a cast of students from diverse backgrounds who were facing prejudice as “the other” in the community. The hope was that their stories would allow all of us to find our commonalities by finding “me” in “the other.”

The stories of the cast of twelve Washtenaw County students include issues of racism, gender identity, sexual orientation, substance abuse, undocumented immigrants, incarceration, alcoholism, homelessness, substance abuse, mental health, suicide.

Through the film’s photographer, Brandie Ekpiken, the filmmakers were fortunate to meet her husband Christopher – co-founder of Our House in Washtenaw County. The spirit of inclusiveness and belonging that Our House has provided to the many young adults who have felt isolated and “othered” in society resonated with the spirit of the film. There was an instant connection!

In honor of all who serve and reside at Our House, Me, The “Other” is donating 100% from the sales of the film from now until June 18th to this outstanding organization with love from the cast and crew of the film.

You’re invited to meet the film’s creators and cast, including members of the Our House family, at the Me, The "Other" virtual launch on June 18, 2021 through a Clubhouse and Zoom celebration!
